First blog post goes here.
So another category in the multilayer flooring is luxury vinyl tile(LVT), also known as luxury vinyl plank(LVP), and luxury vinyl flooring (LVF). This product is a type of resilient flooring that closely mimics the look of natural material thru realistic images and textures. Luxury vinyl flooring takes on two looks stone or wood. The ability to capture the images of realistic looking tile and wood looks using advanced photographic technologies is their foundation. The shapes mimic the sizing that the real products are using such as tile shapes can be 12 x 12, 24 x 24 and 12 x 24. The wood looks shapes can be 3 x 36, 4 x 36, 7 x 48 and up. LVT is composed of virgin vinyl, recycled content or a mixture of vinyl/limestone mixture. The panels are constructed with usually 4 layers fused together:
- Finish – a aluminum oxide, urethane or ceramic based wear layer prevents light scratching and shoe scuffs.
- Clear film – this layer protects against rips and tears.
- Design layer – this is a photo-realistic print of stone or wood.
- Core – The bottom layer gives the product structure and solidity.
The benefits of the LVT is the ease of maintenance, water resistant, scratch, stain and dent resistant. These products usually carry a 20 – 25 year warranty
Innovative and performance have been part of the Armstrong brand for over 150 years. Armstrong’s newest product, Pryzm, also represents a new category in the water proof hybrid flooring. Pryzm uses a commercial grade wear surface which is more durable than the vinyl wear film found on other rigid core products. This wear surface resists scratches, gouges, and dents better then the yinyl wear layers. When exposed to water Pryzm planks will never swell, buckle, or lose integrity. So if you are worried about heavy weight of appliances and furniture, kid’s cleats and ladies stiletto shoes, this is the product you are looking for with visionguard AC4 wear layer.
Today I want to talk about multi-layer flooring (MLF), this product hit the scene in 2012. In this category there are 2 products, WPC and SPC. Multilayer flooring is defined as modular flooring with a rigid polymeric core with a decorative surface attached to the top, and an optional soft under pad attached to the bottom. These layers are glued together and installed with a locking system for easy installation. WPC features an expanded polymer core that is lighter in weight and provides greater comfort due to its lower density. SPC is made with a solid polymer core which is denser and provides an additional benefit due to its hardness. Both products use the same ingredients but with different proportions, WPC is foam air which gives the product a warmer feel and softer underfoot, while SPC is more dent resistant and dimensionally stable. Both products offer tremendous value for they are rigid and waterproof.
